Overview

Housing Officer – Homelessness Prevention & Housing Options Team (HP & HOT) – fixed term until 31/12/2026, based at the North East Locality Office. Salary ranges from £34,452 to £40,501, working 36 hours per week.

The City of Edinburgh Council’s HP & HOT team is at the forefront of tackling homelessness in Edinburgh. You may be required to work at any of the four localities in Edinburgh: Northwest Office, Southeast Office, Northeast Office, Southwest Office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored housing options advice, information and support referrals to prevent homelessness or enable assessed homeless people to access suitable housing quickly.
  • Make statutory decisions about a customer’s entitlement to services, in collaboration with other statutory services and partner organisations.
  • Participate on a rota and cover basis as part of the Emergency Duty and New Appointment team, providing cover across locations and rescheduling diary at short notice.
  • Demonstrate resilience, ownership and responsibility in a high pressure environment with individuals experiencing crisis situations.
  • Maintain statutory and good practice requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of working within a challenging frontline service.
  • Strong knowledge of the social housing landscape in Edinburgh and of key homelessness legislation and policies.
  • Regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 – ability to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
  • Ability to provide an Overseas Criminal Record Check if an individual has spent three months or more outside the UK in the last five years.
