Driver Trainer – Arla Foods, Lockerbie

Arla Foods is actively seeking a Driver Trainer to work within the milk collection operation at the Inbound Transport Depot. The role is 47 hours per week on a Monday – Friday work pattern and requires a mix of day and night shifts. The position includes 26 days holiday plus Bank Holidays & company pension.

About the role

You’ll be an integral part of the operation, working closely with the management team to contribute to longer term business objectives. You will support professional development, training, and promotion from within.

Duties

  • Carry out driving assessments on all new drivers at interview stage
  • Conduct driver inductions
  • Deliver Safe And Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED) technique training
  • Explain EU drivers’ hours and FTA regulations
  • Manage driver infringements
  • Deliver health and safety training (e.g., manual handling, farm safety)
  • Carry out risk assessments and safe systems of work onsite and at farms
  • Train drivers on Bulk Farm collections in line with the driver handbook
  • Provide farm hazard awareness training
  • Offer DTAS (Dairy Transport Assurance Scheme) training and annual assessments
  • Conduct annual driver assessments, identify training needs and act accordingly
  • Arrange drug and alcohol testing

Qualifications

  • Motive individual with experience in driver training and an HGV licence
  • Enthusiastic about teaching others, able to find different ways to engage and educate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Health & Safety orientated and committed to driving the H&S agenda on site
  • Fully literate in writing up Safe Working Practices and How to Guides
  • Fully IT literate with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Confident in presenting to groups in training scenarios
  • Beneficial qualifications: RTITB trained in LGV Assessor Training, LGV Instructor Training, Yardshunter Instructor Training; previous experience in Milk Collection is beneficial but not mandatory
