£28.2k per annum, increasing to £31.3k upon successful completion of the probationary period. Once qualified, earnings can increase with additional paid standby & overtime.

Job Description

We’re looking for exceptional trainee gas engineers. No prior experience required; we will provide all training and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineers on site and learn from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities.
  • Excavate and dig in public & private highways, lay and repair gas pipes, working in various outdoor environments safely as part of a team.
  • Participate in essential work to keep gas supply running to millions of people year round, day or night. Standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours.
  • Maintain the SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring the team has all equipment to work safely and efficiently.

Qualifications & What We’re Looking For

  • Curious, eager to learn and develop skills; seeks knowledge and willing to push boundaries.
  • Resilient, able to bounce back, learn from mistakes and stay focused.
  • Take initiative and ownership; accountable and proactive.
  • Remain calm and adapt in public interaction environments.
  • Comfortable working on a rota with shift patterns, including weekends and nights (24/7, 365 days a year).
  • Must be clean shaven, pass a face fit test, wear tight-fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus.
  • Hold a valid UK driver’s licence.
  • Based within commutable distance from the desired locations.
