First People Solutions is recruiting for an experienced Financial Controller for a rapidly expanding, family-run construction business that plays a crucial role in the power and distribution sector. Specialising in the procurement, design, management, and execution of high and low voltage underground electricity networks, this company is a key partner for major frameworks for Distribution Network Operators across Scotland, contributing significantly to Scotland’s critical infrastructure. As part of continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Finance Controller to join their dynamic team in Fife.

Role Overview:
As Finance Controller, you will oversee and manage all accounting operations. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance processes. This position requires a detail-oriented and analytical professional with a strong background in finance and accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Operations: Manage all accounting operations, including billing, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, monitoring and reporting on variances to support decision-making.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting, manage local reporting requirements, and ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, and CIS filings.
  • Technical Accounting: Research and address technical accounting issues to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Month-End & Year-End Close: Support and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
  • Quality Control: Implement and maintain robust quality control processes over financial transactions and reporting to uphold the integrity of financial data.
  • Payroll Management: Manage the 4-weekly pay run and associated reporting, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls and improve efficiency.
  • Additional Duties: Perform additional controller duties as necessary to support the financial health and operational success of the business.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Finance Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • A relevant degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required.
