The Role
The FBO Safety & Compliance Manager is a key leadership role within Gama Aviation, responsible for overseeing and managing the Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure full compliance with the IS-BAH, CAA and other applicable regulatory authorities. This role requires a proactive leader committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, regulatory adherence, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across all operations.
Scope of Role and Employment
Based at one of our FBO locations, either Glasgow, Jersey or Sharjah, this role supports the group’s Compliance, Quality Assurance, and Safety operations across all locations, ensuring consistent safety and quality standards and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
- Safety Management System (SMS) Development and Implementation
- Develop, implement, and maintain an SMS compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Establish safety policies, procedures, and manuals to guide safe operations.
- Support the Managing Director in identifying and assessing operational hazards, conducting risk assessments, and implement risk mitigation measures.
- Establish safety performance indicators, metrics, and targets to monitor and improve safety performance.
- Foster a safety conscious culture by promoting safety awareness, reporting, and continuous improvement across all locations while supporting the implementation of safety strategies aligned with the group company objectives and holding safety action group meetings.
- Support compliance with applicable safety regulations, programs, and internal company policies across all locations.
- Help track safety trends, analyse incidents for root causes, and provide input on corrective and preventative actions.
- Assist with risk assessments, operational manuals, emergency response plans, and safety observations to ensure a consistent approach across sites.
- Support the ongoing approval of IS BAH in Sharjah and its implementation in Glasgow, Jersey FBOs and any new sites.
- Help conduct safety inspections and audits with management teams.
- Provide safety and compliance advice to leadership and management teams.
- Compliance Monitoring and Quality Management System (QMS) Development and Implementation
- Develop, implement, and maintain an effective QMS that complies with any regulatory requirements.
- Create and update quality policies, procedures, and manuals to ensure adherence to industry best practices.
- Establish quality objectives, metrics, and KPIs to monitor and evaluate QMS effectiveness.
- Create and maintain an annual audit calendar for both internal and external requirements.
- Conduct internal audits to verify compliance with established procedures and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure proper documentation and record keeping of all quality related processes.
- Stay current with regulatory changes and proactively implement necessary updates in both SMS and QMS.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to develop corrective and preventive actions addressing non compliance issues.
- Incident, Investigation, and Reporting Management
- Establish procedures for timely reporting, investigation, and documentation of safety and quality non conformities.
- Lead or participate in investigations of safety incidents and accidents.
- Assist with identifying root causes and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure lessons learned from incidents and investigations are communicated and incorporated into SMS and QMS.
- Analyse safety and quality data, trends, and statistics to identify concerns and implement proactive measures.
- Generate safety and quality reports with recommendations for management.
- Training and Education
- Develop and deliver training programs on safety management, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance for team members at all levels.
- Deliver quarterly safety meetings across all FBO locations and relevant stakeholders.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and regulatory awareness throughout the organization.
- Participate in industry forums, committees, and working groups to stay informed about the latest safety and quality initiatives.
- Emergency Response and Crisis Management
- Establish emergency response procedures and plans to address potential crises or incidents.
- Coordinate with departments to conduct emergency drills and exercises to assess readiness and response effectiveness.
- Ensure appropriate training and resources are available for effective emergency and crisis management.
- Supplier and Vendor Management
- Establish quality requirements for suppliers and vendors and monitor their performance.
- Conduct audits and inspections of suppliers and vendors to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Collaborate with department heads and contract management teams to address quality related issues with suppliers and vendors.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to enhance safety and quality practices.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
- Exacting standards and strong attention to detail.
- 5 – 10 years of experience in Safety Management, Quality Assurance, Compliance Management, or related roles within the aviation industry.
- IOSH Managing Safely certificate is advantageous.
- Relevant certifications in Safety Management Systems, Quality Management Systems, and auditing (e.g., ISO 9001 Lead Auditor).
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong understanding of SMS and QMS principles, best practices, and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication, and people skills.
- Proven ability to lead and manage cross functional teams effectively.
