ESOL Tutor
Contract: 6 weeks Location: Aberdeen Hours: Teaching delivery Monday – Friday, with teaching hours 10am-2pm. Learner Cohort: Group of up to 15 Pre-Entry ESOL adult learners
Key Responsibilities – Teaching, Learning & Assessment
- Demonstrate consistently high expectations of and for all learners, driving positive outcomes.
- Deliver engaging, personalised ESOL learning sessions that enable learners to make progress and achieve individual goals.
- Conduct effective initial and diagnostic assessment to establish accurate starting points and develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
- Deliver accredited ESOL qualifications and broader learning in line with awarding body and organisational policies.
- Personalise lesson planning using initial assessment data to ensure all learners’ needs are met, providing both support and challenge.
- Provide timely, constructive written and verbal feedback to support learner progress.
- Assess, track and record learner progress in line with policies, intervening early to ensure all learners achieve their full potential.
- Prepare learners for summative assessments including controlled assessments, external exams and portfolio submissions.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain rigour and accuracy in qualification assessment, adhering to JCQ and awarding body requirements regarding secure materials and assessment processes.
- Contribute to internal quality assurance by supporting the assessment activity of colleagues under the direction of the LIQA.
- Contribute actively to the development and continuous improvement of schemes of work, resources and educational quality.
- Manage learner records and administration to ensure full compliance with contractual and funding requirements.
- Ensure full adherence to all company policies and procedures.
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
- Uphold a strong safeguarding culture, demonstrating full compliance with Safeguarding and Prevent policy and promoting vigilance at all times.
- Support learner wellbeing and manage behaviour, attendance and punctuality effectively.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Liaise with colleagues to ensure learners’ IAG (Information, Advice & Guidance) and employability needs are fully met.
- Work flexibly to meet business and contract requirements, including occasional changes of site or delivery method.
- Attend tutor meetings, standardisation sessions, and CPD activities as required.
- Manage personal professional development, using internal and external feedback to continually improve teaching practice.
- Participate fully in performance management, preparing for reviews, meeting deadlines and achieving KPIs.
Virtual Delivery
- Demonstrate confidence and experience supporting learners virtually, using online platforms where required to enhance learning.
Essential Criteria
- ESOL teaching experience.
- A recognised ESOL Qualification
- Experience working within adult education settings.
- Strong knowledge of Safeguarding and Prevent.
- Proven ability to deliver effective personalised learning to adults with diverse barriers.
- Experience delivering accredited ESOL qualifications.
- Ability to create and develop engaging learning resources.
- Flexibility to work across different locations as required.
- Clean driving licence and full access to a vehicle (desirable, not essential).
