Job Description
- Carry out regulatory activities and, where required, enforce various statutes
- Assist the Service Manager and Lead Officers in discharging Environmental Health functions
- Carry out operational and professional Environmental Health duties allocated within the team remit
- Investigate and enforce alleged contraventions of legislation
- Inspect businesses and premises
- Assess applications related to licensing
- Work independently and collaboratively with team members
- Work with and refer to other Council services and partner organisations
- Food & Workplace Safety: conduct inspections, interventions and investigations concerning food law, workplace health and safety, port health, communicable diseases and licensing
- Public Protection: investigate Private Housing Standards complaints, assist with caravan site licensing, undertake statutory nuisance investigations, respond to planning consultations and help develop Housing, Nuisance and Enforcement projects
- Participate in out-of-hours standby incidents and attend public meetings
Requirements
- Must hold the REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health or have REHIS confirmation of qualification equivalency
- Applications welcome from individuals due to sit REHIS Professional Examinations at the autumn 2026 diet
- Detailed knowledge of Environmental Health subject material relating to food and workplace safety or public protection
- Knowledge of other Environmental Health legislation
- Detailed knowledge of Environmental Health enforcement procedures
- Ability to meet targets and work to deadlines
- Sound organisational ability
- Rational, methodical approach to problem solving
- Ability to work and lead effectively within a team
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills
- Ability to work outside normal hours, including participation in the Standby Service, is required
