You’ll be central to enhancing environmental performance, advising on best practice, mitigating risks, and protecting sensitive habitats within the UK rail network. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on environmental compliance and sustainability in a high profile, safety critical sector – all while developing your expertise across complex, real world infrastructure environments.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Provide environmental advice and guidance to site teams on legislation, best practice and compliance.
- Manage and update project documentation including Environmental Management Plans, Emergency Response Plans and Risk Registers.
- Conduct site audits and inspections to ensure legal compliance and drive improvements.
- Monitor environmental and waste related performance, analysing data and producing reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead or support investigations into environmental incidents and support root cause analysis.
This is a permanent, full time position working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility required for occasional night shifts and weekend work (with time off in lieu). The role is hybrid, with regular site travel across Scotland.
Essential experience of the Environmental Advisor:
- Previous experience in a construction or engineering environment.
- Experience implementing or working with an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001.
- Strong knowledge of current UK environmental legislation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
Qualifications for the Environmental Advisor:
- Degree (or equivalent) in an Environmental or Engineering discipline.
- IEMA Certificate (Associate level or above).
- Membership of IEMA (Associate or Full).
