MRD Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting an Engineering Shift Lead on behalf of our client, a leading manufacturing business based in Hamilton.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineering Team Leader, Maintenance Team Leader, Engineering Supervisor or Senior Multi-Skilled Engineer looking to take the next step in their career.

Reporting to the Site Engineering Lead, you’ll lead the engineering team on nights, ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the site’s manufacturing equipment while driving continuous improvement across the department.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Engineering Shift Lead, you’ll take ownership of engineering activities during your shift, ensuring equipment reliability and supporting production to achieve its targets.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, coaching and developing a team of maintenance engineers.
  • Planning and prioritising reactive and planned maintenance activities.
  • Carrying out hands-on mechanical and electrical fault finding and repairs.
  • Driving preventative and predictive maintenance programmes.
  • Working closely with Production and Quality teams to minimise downtime.
  • Leading root cause analysis and implementing permanent corrective actions.
  • Monitoring engineering KPIs including plant availability, downtime and PPM completion.
  • Supporting continuous improvement projects to improve reliability and performance.
  • Managing contractors safely and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Food Safety standards.
  • Ensuring effective communication and shift handovers between engineering teams.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced engineering professional who combines strong technical knowledge with proven leadership skills.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A recognised Mechanical, Electrical or Multi-Skilled Engineering qualification.
  • At least five years’ experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally FMCG, food or beverage.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising engineering teams.
  • Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience working with conveyors, packaging equipment, automation and production machinery.
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems and preventative maintenance.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

  • PLC fault-finding experience.
  • IOSH qualification.
  • HACCP or Food Safety training.
