Your New Role:As an Electrician, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining electrical systems across large-scale naval vessels within a shipbuilding environment. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring systems are installed safely, accurately, and to the highest standards. Key responsibilities include:
Installation of a variety of cables including multi-core, single core, and coaxial
Installation and connection of electrical systems such as junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers, and switches
Cable termination and commissioning of electrical equipment
Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
Conducting diagnostics, fault finding, and testing using appropriate equipment such as multi-meters and insulation resistance testers
Working collaboratively with multi-skilled teams to ensure timely delivery of projects
Ensuring compliance with all health & safety, quality, and environmental standards
Adhering to SHE, COSHH, PUWER, and safe working procedures including tag-out and proving dead processes
You will be working across a range of shift patterns including days, nights, and weekends depending on operational requirements. What You’ll Need to Succeed:To succeed in this role, you must bring strong electrical expertise and a commitment to high-quality workmanship. Essential requirements:
A completed Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering (trade papers must be provided)
Relevant experience within marine, construction, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
Strong knowledge of electrical installation processes including cabling, terminations, earthing, and equipment installation
Familiarity with safety procedures including SHE, COSHH, PUWER, and risk assessments
Understanding of tag-out systems and safe proving dead procedures
Ability to work safely in confined spaces and at height
Desirable:
Experience working on large-scale marine or shipbuilding projects
Previous experience with defence or high-spec engineering environments
Additional safety certifications such as working at height or confined spaces

Additional Information:This role is based onsite in Glasgow (Govan and Scotstoun shipyards), and candidates must be able to attend a recruitment day in Glasgow.Please note that due to the nature of the work, security clearance requirements apply.
