The role:
To ensure day to day supervision of domestic staff in hospitals and other healthcare premises such as health centres and clinics.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Permanent, Part time
Base location – Vale of Leven Hospital
Shift Pattern – Mon-Sun
Key responsibilities:
- Day to day supervision and 1st line management of domestic staff.
- Plan, organise, deploy and direct domestic staff.
- Assist in the recruitment and selection procedure for domestic staff,
- Undertake induction and ‘on the job’ training and completion of appropriate documentation.
- Undertake regular monitoring of cleaning standards and ensure corrective action is taken. Complete departmental documentation for monitoring and audits.
- Issue of cleaning materials and stock control.
- Reporting mechanical and structural faults relating to domestic equipment and fabric and furniture within the building.
- Allocation of staff on a daily basis ensuring appropriate levels.
- Implement duty rotas and leave and completion of staff payroll information as appropriate.
- Responsible for the security of keys and equipment.
- Assisting with the compilation, implementation and adherence to work schedules and making necessary adjustments following changes.
- Assisting in the allocation and control of rooms in residential accommodation.
- Supervise and control the issue of keys, including those for residential accommodation.
- Ensure domestic staff undertake their duties with due regard to the Infection Control Policy and give advice where necessary.
- Ensure Domestic Staff comply with Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices.
- Assist Departmental Manager with risk assessments.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
relevant working experience as Domestic Assistant.
City and Guilds Cleaning Science Parts 1 and 2 or equivalent.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
