Position
Continence Nurse for Care Homes (Band 6) to work within our Care Home Professional Support Team based at Ailsa Hospital NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
Hours
36 Hours per week (full time) Monday to Friday. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
UK Driving Licence
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.
What you will do
- Be an integral member of the Care Home Professional Support Team, providing professional nursing support, advice, education and supervision to staff working within Older People and Adult Care Homes in Ayrshire & Arran.
- Work independently, managing a caseload and own diary effectively, travelling to community locations and care homes throughout Ayrshire and Arran using your own vehicle.
- Work in close collaboration with the Community Continence Team, Health & Social Care Partnerships teams, care home staff and their managers to enhance knowledge and practice in the management of residents with continence needs.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and written skills, with experience in quality improvement methodology and data collection; provide professional leadership, specialist nursing expertise and evidence based guidance in education to support high standards of resident care.

- Responsible for comprehensive, holistic assessment and offering specialist clinical advice on urinary management and related therapies including the use of equipment; advise a range of professionals on appropriate interventions.
Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with minimum of 2 years post registration experience and an interest in continence promotion and management.
- Certificate in Continence Management (Continence Module Level 3, BSc) – essential.
- A degree/specialist qualification or equivalent experience.
- Well developed written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to lifelong learning and evidence of continuing professional development.
- Experience of working in the community setting or care homes is desirable.
- Ability to keep relevant skills/knowledge updated and documented.
- Experience in teaching residents, carers and professional colleagues.
- Post graduate module in teaching in nursing practice is desirable.
- Extensive training and knowledge in continence products/fitting and efficient use and environmental disposal factors.
- Practice Supervisor/ Assessor experience desirable.
