Overview

Consumer Products and Propositions Lawyer (Assistant Vice President) – Non Lending Consumer Products & Propositions team, Barclays UK Legal.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance of consumer banking activities with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance.
  • Provide proactive legal advice and support to the consumer banking division on regulatory compliance, change management, consumer protection, and risk management.
  • Represent the bank in legal proceedings related to consumer banking – litigation, arbitration, regulatory enquiries, and investigations.
  • Create and periodically review legal documents in line with contractual arrangements policy.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to stay updated on changes in laws and regulations impacting consumer banking operations.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify, communicate, and provide legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations (LRRs). Keep up to date with changes to LRRs and ensure they are reflected in policies, standards and controls.
  • Lead and mentor a team to deliver complex tasks that impact the business function.

Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with financial services regulatory experience.
  • In house experience in banking or related sector is welcome but not essential.
  • Strong legal and regulatory judgement in consumer banking.
  • Experience in product development, innovation and ongoing proposition management.
  • Ability to spot, assess, and clearly explain legal and regulatory risks, including emerging issues.
  • Effective communication skills, translating complexity into clear and actionable advice.
  • Proactive, curious, solutions driven, collaborative, and personable.

Locations

This role can be based in Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester or Northampton.
