Overview

A friendly and reliable Companion/Personal Assistant is sought to support a gentleman living in Smailholm with his wife. This rewarding role focuses on providing companionship, social interaction, and support to help maintain wellbeing, independence, and enjoyment of daily life.

The successful candidate will enjoy spending time in conversation, sharing interests, and supporting the gentleman to engage in activities he enjoys, including walking his dog around the village and discussing literature. There may also be opportunities to accompany him on occasional day trips, with mileage paid. Mileage to and from work may be discussed with the employer.

This position would suit someone who is personable, patient, and enjoys building meaningful relationships.

Vacancy Information

Location: Smailholm

Hours: 4 hours per week

Working Pattern: Flexible and to be agreed with the employer. Support will generally take place after 9:30am.

Rate of Pay: £14.05 per hour

Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks pro rata

Contract Conditions: Subject to satisfactory references and PVG check

Probationary Period: 6 months

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Provide companionship and social support in a friendly and engaging manner
  • Spend time talking with the gentleman and encouraging participation in conversations and activities of interest
  • Accompany the gentleman on walks around the village with his dog
  • Engage in discussions about literature and other shared interests
  • Support the gentleman to access community activities and maintain social connections
  • Accompany the gentleman on occasional outings and day trips as agreed
  • Promote wellbeing, independence, and enjoyment through meaningful engagement
  • Build and maintain a positive, respectful, and professional working relationship
  • Respect privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times

Skills and Experience

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a companion, support worker, or personal assistant role
  • An interest in literature, reading, or discussion-based activities
  • Confidence supporting individuals within their local community
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Experience supporting older adults

Terms

  • Rate of Pay: £14.05 per hour
  • Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks pro rata
