The Role

  • Clinical Technologist within the Medical Physics Department based at University Hospital Wishaw.
  • The service includes the installation, commissioning, calibration, performance assurance and repair of a wide range of medical equipment. Staff undertake duties in accordance with the quality system operated.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of electrical, electronic or engineering principles to carry out servicing, repair and clinical support of medical equipment.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Safety or PAT testing, IT/software and specialist test equipment with practical experience on the maintenance & repair of medical equipment is desirable.
  • Experience of engineering workplace practice and techniques including Health and Safety Regulations, working knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines and working within quality management systems.
  • Driving to Community Health Facilities to perform the above duties.

Working pattern: fixed 5 day shift pattern, Monday – Thursday (08 45), Friday (08 30).

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with clinicians, surgical staff and clinical users to understand problems with medical equipment and respond appropriately to urgency.
  • Undertake fault finding on complex medical devices down to board or component level, applying suitable techniques and reporting novel fault conditions to manufacturers.
  • Diagnose problems caused by user error, equipment failure or environmental issues such as temperature or radio frequency interference.
  • Undertake repairs on complex mechanisms to component level where appropriate.
  • Check that equipment performs to manufacturer’s specification.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Applied Physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent technical qualification (ONC/HNC/HND).
  • Knowledge of maintaining and repairing electro medical equipment in a healthcare setting compatible with the post holder’s qualification.
  • Good technical knowledge and problem solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of human physiology.
  • Full UK/EU/EEA driving licence.
