NHS HIGHLAND Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban

Clinical Fellow/Clinical Development Fellow – 40 hours per week, banding (if applicable).

£45,504 – £60,199 per annum pro rata.

NHS Highland is hiring a Clinical Fellow in General Medicine/Surgery at Lorn and Islands Hospital in Oban. The role is a fixed term contract of 12 months starting August 2026, with an option for a 6 12 month placement. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hospital specialty experience in a rural NHS Highland setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide acute general medical and surgical care, including accident and emergency presentations.
  • Work with consultant physicians, surgeons, anaesthetists and rural emergency physicians.
  • Manage inpatient care, including a 4 bed high dependency area.
  • Participate in outpatient clinics where available.
  • Engage with the 24 hour CT scanning service in the radiology department.
  • Take part in the hospital educational programme.

Qualifications

  • Full registration with the GMC and a valid licence to practice.
  • Experience or competency in general medicine and surgery (clinical experience acceptable).
  • Aged 18 or over, and physically fit to work in a general hospital setting.

Successful candidates will be considered for a 12 month fixed term contract beginning in August 2026; a 6 12 month option is also available.
