Clinical Coder – Duties and Responsibilities
- Analysing patient records and recording all the relevant information
- Examining records and documentation for potential missing information
- Collaborating with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure information accuracy
- Ensuring that the practice complies with clinical coding guidelines as per NHS Grampian + NHS Scotland
- Carrying out periodic audits / searches of patients’ medical records
- Inputting and extracting data as required to support practice reports
- Actioning incoming correspondence, emails and mail in a timely manner
- Review and summarise the medical records of patients newly registered with the practice
- Supporting Practice Manager with audits and contractual reviews / information gathering across both practices

We are recruiting one position of 25 hours.

We can be flexible on working days, but must include Tuesday and Thursday at least.
This position is based at our New Dyce Practice, however there may be requirements to work at our Bridge of Don Practice as required. Training and induction will be at the Scotstown Practice.
Clinical Coder Skills and Qualifications
Clinical Coders need a combination of computer skills, organisation and thoroughness, and knowledge of medical coding principles to perform their duties effectively. A successful Clinical Coder will have various prerequisite skills and qualifications that typically include:
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology
- In-depth understanding of clinical coding standards within NHS Scotland
- Working knowledge of relevant software packages is a requirement, e.g. Vision, Emis, Docman. (We are a Vision practice)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team and independently
- A minimum of 2 years coding and/or summarising experience
- NOTE: You must be competent in coding. This is not a training role.
Salary
£14.32 (increased to £14.92 upon completion of successful probationary period)
