Cleaning Operative – Public Conveniences – Portobello area
Salary: £26,205 – £26,525 (pro-rata for part-time)
Hours: 25 per week, 52 weeks
Working Pattern: Four on four off Rotational Shift Pattern.
Working Hours: 11:30am until 8:30pm (90 Minutes unpaid break)
As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you’ll be a key member of our Facilities Management team. You’ll deliver a vital cleaning service across our estate to ensure our properties are safe and clean places to work or learn.

Responsibilities
- Empty litter and recycling bins.
- Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings within a group of buildings.
- Clean all sanitary areas, toilets and showers and replenish washroom consumables.
- Emergency and re active cleaning as required, e.g. removal of graffiti, body fluid spillages, accidental spillages.
- Take care of all equipment used in carrying out the above duties.
- Support cleaning tasks across other buildings where required.
- Deliver to the cleaning specification requirements and cooperate with performance measurement so that the overall agreed standards are met.
Keyholding duties
As part of the duties of a Cleaning Operative you will be a key holder to fulfil tasks that include operation of security alarm systems when opening a building, closing accessible windows and doors, switching off lights and ensuring that premises are left safe and secure when closing.
Requirements
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If you have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out of the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be contingent on the outcome of both pre employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
