Position Overview
Asbestos Officer (Tenant Safety – Housing Service) – Waverley Court.
Salary: £40,501 – £47,639 per year. Hours: 36 per week.
Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Asbestos Officer to be appointed to a post within the City of Edinburgh Council Housing and Homelessness Services and to join the Housing Services Asbestos Team. This hybrid role requires the post holder to meet with the rest of the team at least once a week in our Edinburgh Office and often attend meetings with contractors or carry out inspections throughout Edinburgh.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder will support the Asbestos and Water Quality Manager in all aspects of asbestos-related statutory compliance and manage associated works in accordance with legislation and the internal Asbestos Management Plan, policy and procedures. Responsibilities include:
- Organising and inspecting asbestos works.
- Engaging with various City of Edinburgh Council departments and projects.
- Managing asbestos removal and analytical contractors.
- Ensuring appropriate information is provided and retained in our database.
- Participating in incident investigations, audits, non-conforming work investigations and other checks to ensure the integrity of our methods and compliance with systems.
- Providing advice, information and training to colleagues from different departments.
Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for a team player with asbestos work-related experience and interest in project, contractor and data management, as well as a passion for health and safety and quality control. Candidates must:
- Be able to deal with the public and demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Have reporting and IT competence.
- Show respect, integrity, and flexibility.
- Have extensive experience of creating a high-performing culture, driving change and service delivery.

Additional Information
Our salary range reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. Flexible working arrangements are available.
