Overview

Heating Engineer apprenticeship – Fixed Term Apprenticeship located in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. Start Date: 3 August 2026 (Provisional). Training Provider: BPEC – Glasgow Kelvin College. Course Length: approximately 4 years. You will be paid the normal working hours plus attendance at college, with the nationally agreed apprentice pay rates and company benefits. You must live in a North Lanarkshire postcode.

Role and responsibilities

What a Heating Engineer does: work will be varied and involve using a diverse range of skills to support planned works such as kitchen and bathroom refurbishments, and ongoing maintenance and repair activities. The apprenticeship course will cover the following:

  • Apply Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation in the Building Services Engineering Sector
  • Establish and Maintain Good Working Relationships
  • Perform Electrical Work on Mechanical Building Services Systems
  • Install and Test Industrial and Commercial Heating and Ventilating Pipework Systems
  • Inspect and Pre-Commission Industrial and Commercial Heating and Ventilating Systems
  • Commission Industrial and Commercial Heating and Ventilating Systems
  • Decommission Industrial and Commercial Heating and Ventilating Systems
  • Service and Maintain Industrial and Commercial Heating and Ventilating Systems
  • Service and Maintain Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems

Entry criteria and qualifications

Entry Criteria for roles: Nat 5 English, Maths, preferably Physics plus 2 Highers / pre-apprenticeship / potential to work towards SVQ level 6 & 7. Candidates will undertake a pre-employment assessment and interview. You must live within a North Lanarkshire postcode and be able to independently travel to and from the branch. The potential to work at SCQF level 6/7. Strong communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain good customer/client relationships. Candidates will undertake a pre-employment assessment.
