An exciting opportunity exists to join our mental health pharmacy team at Borders General Hospital Campus in Melrose, with additional community care as part of the psychiatry multidisciplinary team (MDT). Your role within the MDT and pharmacy teams is to lead, develop, and provide clinical pharmacy services in these specialist areas, supporting the delivery of regional and national programmes.
This role allows you to bring your ideas and influence our current clinical pharmacy service, maximise patient centred care, and support the implementation of Achieving Excellence within the mental health speciality. You will be a reflective practitioner with the necessary therapeutic knowledge, practical skills, and diverse experience to provide high quality patient centred care. Good team working and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to lead service development and ensure continued success in a changing healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
As part of our clinical team you will work closely with multidisciplinary staff, contribute to the developing role of our clinical technicians and pharmacy support staff, and promote robust medicines governance and patient safety initiatives. You will also support future developments such as electronic medicines management and lead the psychopharmacology service within the team.
Qualifications
Pharmacist with a strong general clinical knowledge base, keen to specialise in psychiatry, post foundation RPS accreditation (or equivalent). An independent prescriber qualification is desirable.
Benefits
From 1st April 2026 the Agenda for Change full time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week, with a corresponding increase in hourly rate so that remuneration will not be affected. Part time hours will be adjusted pro rata in line with the new full time allocation.
