The Role
The post holder is responsible for the systematic autonomous provision of highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment to women, aged 18 and over who have experienced gender-based violence (GBV). This work includes individual and group work and will require the post holder to work as part of a small team, which includes clinicians and the Service Administrator, as well as liaising, as necessary, with other psychology colleagues and MDT staff across NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL), as well as third sector partners.
Additional Information Specific to the Role
As a GBV service, FEMALE APPLICANTS ONLY may apply under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 as a lawful occupational requirement for the role. EVA Psychology aims to enhance GBV and trauma-informed provision both within NHSL and to external partner agencies. EVA accepts referrals for patients from the community and NHS workforce, with a prioritised referral route being established via the Rape and Sexual Assault Pathway.
Organisational Position
EVA Psychology is embedded and line managed within Psychological Services in NHSL, grouped within a management pod, linking other specialist psychological services.
In this key role, you will:
- Provide a highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment service to Adult Psychological Therapies, exercising autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of patients. This may include provision of legal reports and/or expert witness testimonies as required by courts, and cognitive/neuropsychological assessment.
- Identify Service priorities in line with current best practice and Clinical Standards/Guidelines in liaison with the relevant Locality Co-ordinator/Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.
- Be aware of relevant legislation and to make appropriate decisions, for example, in cases of suspected child abuse or neglect. This will involve carrying out appropriate risk assessment to self and others.
- Provide core specialist clinical placements and clinical supervision to trainee clinical psychologists from the West and East of Scotland Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Courses, the M.Sc. Courses in Primary Care (Adults) at Stirling/Dundee Universities and other trainees as appropriate, ensuring that they meet the level of clinical competency required by the relevant courses.
- Be responsible for the appraisal of clinical performance and assessment of core competencies in trainee clinical psychologists on Doctoral programmes and other trainees as appropriate.
What You’ll Bring:
- Have a Post Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and be a Registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK.
- Complete further courses of additional learning as relevant to the clinical skills required for the post and identified as significant in the Personal Development Plan, and have accredited training in the supervision of Post Graduate clinical trainees.
- Have knowledge of NHSL Health Board’s Policies and Procedures, and national and professional guidelines for optimal standards of clinical care e.g. child protection guidelines.
- Have knowledge of psychiatry and other related professions in order to understand complex clinical presentations.
- Work in a sensitive manner with respect to diversity and gender, ethnic, culture and philosophical issues with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
