Role Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Rehabilitation Engineer at the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. The SMART Centre provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture, modify, repair and maintain custom made and adapted medical and assistive technology devices following clinical prescriptions and technical specifications.
- Contribute to the design and development of bespoke solutions and act as technical lead within a specialist area.
- Support work across assistive technology services and assist with patient assessments to determine solutions to overcome functional and environmental barriers.
- Carry out fittings, repairs and equipment reviews and provide technical guidance to Rehabilitation Technicians and Engineers.
- Maintain accurate technical and patient records in line with quality systems.
- Travel to satellite clinics and patient homes as required.
- Provide day to day supervision to Rehabilitation Technicians and Engineers and contribute to service development and innovation.
Other Role Requirements
- Work both in the workshop and directly with patients in clinics, satellite sites and home environments.
- Strong problem solving ability and capacity to work independently with a high level of responsibility.
- Flexible schedule to support patient care across sites.

To work in the United Kingdom, legal permission to work is required, typically granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. Applicants must hold a valid PVG Scheme membership/record for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult); otherwise, an application will be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before starting duties.
