Job Description

Responsibilities

Provide a highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment service to Adult Psychological Therapies, exercising autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of patients.

Provide legal reports and/or expert witness testimonies as required by courts, and cognitive or neuropsychological assessment.

Identify service priorities in line with current best practice and clinical standards/guidelines in liaison with the relevant Locality Co ordinator or Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.

Be aware of relevant legislation and make appropriate decisions around safeguarding, including carrying out risk assessment.

Provide clinical placements and clinical supervision to trainee practitioners as appropriate, ensuring they meet the level of clinical competency required by their training programmes.

Qualifications Clinical Counselling Psychologist

  • Post Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK.
  • Complete further courses of additional learning relevant to the clinical skills required for the post and show accredited training in supervision of Post Graduate clinical trainees.
  • Knowledge of NHS Health Board Policies and Procedures, national and professional guidelines for optimal standards of clinical care such as child protection guidelines.
  • Knowledge of psychiatry and related professions to understand complex clinical presentations.
  • A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence is required.

Senior Psychological Therapist

  • HCPC registered psychologist (doctorate degree) or NMC (honours degree) or Allied Health Professional (AHP) (honours degree) or accredited membership of BABCP/BACP/UKCP; or Graduate basis for chartership with BPS and completion of a masters level clinical skills training programme accredited by the BPS.
  • Completion of training in at least one evidence based psychological therapy and additional relevant experience of providing a highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment service.
  • Knowledge of NHS Health Board Policies and Procedures, national and professional guidelines for optimal standards of clinical care such as child protection guidelines.
  • A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence is required.
