The Opportunity (DESI08157):

The Product Design Programme at Edinburgh College of Art is seeking an individual to join our team as Tutor on DESI08157, covering the design and manufacturing of objects. This role will facilitate the weekly CAD demonstrations and workshops, support studio sessions in relation to DFM and prototyping, and to assist with course assessment. An understanding of design for manufacture and CAD, specifically AutoDesk Fusion is essential. The students will be using video tutorials taking them through specific tools in Fusion 360, allowing them to work at their own speed. The tutor is expected to run some demonstrations, troubleshooting sessions, and sign-post to new learning materials where appropriate.

In addition to proficiency in AutoDesk Fusion, applicants should be familiar with topics in Product Design, ideally have experience designing for manufacture (DFM) and prototyping for product design, and be able to work at the timetabled hours of the course (currently timetabled for Monday and Thursday, with GH tutor hours mostly falling on Mondays).

The Opportunity (DESI10055):

Product Design is looking for an individual, experienced in observation and intervention-based design research methods, to fill a tutoring position on a course covering the design and manufacturing of disruptive and transgressive product service systems.

Product Design; Transactions introduces students to the role that objects play in complex social, environmental, technical and economic settings. Through practical projects, students engage in the development of designed artefacts or systems that are inspired by transgressive, disruptive and/or illicit human practices. The students will be tasked with performing breaching experiments and design interventions around the city to reveal these transgressive and disruptive behaviours.
