Senior Mechanical Engineer Future Equity Opportunity Edinburgh Opportunity to Help Build and Lead a New Edinburgh Office
This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious Senior Mechanical Engineer with an entrepreneurial mindset and strong commercial awareness to join an established building services consultancy at a pivotal stage of its growth journey. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing and developing the consultancy’s new Edinburgh operation, working closely with senior leadership to grow the business across Scotland and the North of England. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a significant amount of existing projects and an ever-growing client base.
A clear pathway has been identified for the successful individual to acquire a significant shareholding in the Edinburgh business within 12 months, alongside the opportunity to lead and develop the office as it grows.
This role would suit a technically strong Mechanical Engineer who is equally motivated by business development, client relationships, and the prospect of helping shape a successful regional consultancy operation.
Your New Company
An established Building Services Design Consultancy with a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality Mechanical, Electrical and Environmental Engineering solutions across the UK and Ireland. The consultancy provides MEP design, BIM coordination, and 3D modelling services across a diverse portfolio of projects spanning commercial, education, healthcare, residential, industrial and public sector developments. Having built a successful presence elsewhere in the UK, the business is now investing in Scotland through the creation of a new Edinburgh office and is seeking an ambitious Mechanical Engineer to help drive this exciting next phase of growth.
Your New Role
Based in Edinburgh, you’ll work across a hybrid model incorporating office, home, and site-based working, supporting projects throughout Scotland and the North of England. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical building services designs while also contributing to client development, project leadership, and the strategic growth of the Edinburgh operation.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing mechanical engineering solutions from concept through to project completion
- Leading HVAC and public health design across a range of projects
- Producing design calculations, specifications, schedules, reports, and technical documentation
- Managing client relationships and acting as a key point of contact
- Identifying and supporting new business opportunities across Scotland and the North of England
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers as the team expands
- Coordinating with electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines
- Ensuring compliance with current Building Regulations, British Standards, and industry best practice
- Designing energy-efficient and low-carbon building services solutions
- Supporting the establishment and growth of the Edinburgh office
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Proven experience within a Building Services or MEP Consultancy environment
- Strong HVAC and public health design experience
- Excellent understanding of UK Building Regulations and industry standards
- Experience using industry-standard software such as Revit, IES or similar
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Commercial awareness and an interest in business development
- Ambition to progress into a leadership role and contribute to the growth of a new office
