An opportunity has arisen within Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability for a

Trading Standards Officer to join our Trading Standards team on a permanent basis.

NRS brings together a diverse range of Glasgow City Council operational, technical and development services that focus on sustainable transport, place making and delivering essential city services.

What the job involves

: You will work both independently and as part of a wider team to contribute to the delivery a high-quality regulatory service within Glasgow.

You will enforce consumer protection legislation in accordance with statutory requirements, investigate complaints and suspected breaches of legislation, plan and carry out inspections of business premises, whilst also providing advice and support to businesses and consumers.

This is a challenging and rewarding role in a busy local authority environment. You will have the opportunity to contribute to investigations, inspections, enforcement activities, and consumer/business advice, helping protect Glasgow’s communities and ensuring businesses operate within the law.

What we’re looking for

: You must have good communication skills, the ability to interpret and apply legislation, sound investigative abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a working knowledge of the role of a Trading Standards Officer within a local authority setting.

A diploma in Trading Standards is an essential requirement for this role. A current full driving licence is desirable.

What we’re offering

: A core salary starting at

£45,495.33 rising to

£52,944.70 on an incremental scale. In addition to the annual salary the job attracts an annual payment of £1,357 for the non-standard work pattern/hours (NSWPH) in operation.

A 35-hour per week work pattern on a rota that may involve evening and weekend working across Monday – Sunday.

An Annual leave entitlement which starts at 26 days per year, rising to 29 days after 5 years’ continuous service, plus an additional 12.5 Public Holidays per year.

Enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme; the ability to join the Glasgow Credit Union, who offer a variety of loans, savings and mortgages exclusively for their members; and the ability to make direct contributions from your salary to the Hospital Saturday Fund who offer individual and family health plans.
