Responsibilities
As a Structural Technician, you will:
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and architects to develop structural solutions for various building projects.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings, models, and documentation using CAD and BIM software.
- Ensure compliance with UK building codes, regulations, and standards in all project designs.
- Conduct quality checks and reviews of drawings and models to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Support the design team in developing technical solutions to structural challenges.
- Maintain project files, records, and documentation for internal and client use.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver project objectives on time and within budget.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in UK Engineering Design with a focus on Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Practical experience working on Building Structures, including commercial, residential, and industrial projects.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD and BIM tools.
- A strong understanding of UK building regulations, British Standards, and Eurocodes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- HND/HNC in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent relevant qualifications (Degree in a related field is an advantage).
- A commitment to continuous professional development and staying up-to-date with advancements in structural engineering.
Day-to-day
On a typical day as a Structural Technician, you can expect to:
- Attend design meetings to discuss project requirements and progress.
- Use CAD and BIM tools to produce precise structural drawings and designs that align with project specifications.
- Support engineers in developing and refining structural solutions, offering detailed and innovative input.
- Review and revise project designs based on stakeholder feedback and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate with other disciplines, such as MEP, architectural, and geotechnical teams, to ensure seamless integration across the project.
- Prepare documents and reports for clients and regulatory bodies, as required.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance your technical skills and knowledge of emerging trends in structural design.
