Flight Information Service Officer and Duty Technical Supervisor

The jobholder will be required to undertake all of the required duties of a FISO (Flight Information Service Officer) and Duty Technical Supervisor (DTS). As a FISO the jobholder will be expected to work to a high standard and provide a safe and expeditious service to FIR service users. As a DTS the jobholder will be expected to support the Operations Supervisor during the day to day running of the operation and undertake the required duties. Shift working in line with local operational requirements shall be required.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Provide a Flight Information Service (Area) for the purpose of giving advice and information useful for the safe and efficient conduct of flight to aircraft operating in Class G airspace within the appropriate FIR.
  • Provide DTS support to the Prestwick Operation by ensuring the safe and efficient management of real-time data across safety-critical systems supporting Oceanic and Domestic operations.
  • Carry out training where appropriate as laid out in the Centres Support Staff Training Document for FISO and DTS.
  • Provide expert advice to non-operational and project areas on FISO and DTS-related issues.
  • Attend ATC forums as required to provide expert input relating to FISO or DTS tasks related to your operational competencies.
  • Engage and support initiatives to implement continuous improvements and efficiencies as appropriate.
  • Excellent team player, with the ability to demonstrate flexibility in meeting the various working demands associated with this position.
  • An ability to work accurately and autonomously as required.
  • The ability to work harmoniously and professionally with multi-disciplined teams both internal and external to NATS displaying a good understanding of NATS business direction.
  • Able to operate in a calm and professional manner whilst handling the pressures of day-to-day FIR and operational activity.
  • Proven record of a positive and constructive approach to change for the benefit of the operation and NATS as a whole whilst demonstrating sound judgement regarding business requirements.
  • Individuals must be able to evidence leadership qualities befitting of a senior support staff position.
