Post Doctorial Research Fellow, Biological Sciences (SBS190R) Job Description

This multi partner project is led by Stirling and Bangor Universities and funded by the BBSRC Sustainable Aquaculture Partnerships for Innovation programme. It combines experimental and functional genomic approaches with industry relevant pathology and welfare measures to investigate how early life photoperiods impact immune resilience in key salmon developmental stages. The goal is to understand the influence of diet and light environments on fish immunity and to provide evidence for improved salmon rearing practices that promote circadian health.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct gene expression analysis with large genomic and transcriptomic datasets.
  • Assist in fish trials to generate material for gene expression studies.
  • Liaise closely with Stirling University partners and industrial aquaculture partners throughout the project.

Qualifications

  • PhD in functional genomics with knowledge of fish immune system nutrition or chronobiology.
  • Expertise in molecular biology laboratory techniques and computational analysis of gene expression or transcriptomics.
  • Good writing and communication skills.

This is a 5 month contract position. Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6, £38,784 – £46,049 per annum pro rata, based on qualifications and experience.

Location

This role is based in the UK. The successful candidate must be able to live and work in the UK and demonstrate a right to work before commencing employment. The role does not meet the salary requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
