Early Years Officer – Pennywell Early Learning and Childcare
Salary: £34,452 – £40,501 (pro rata for part time)
Hours: 18 per week, 52 weeks
Pennywell Early Learning and Childcare opened in August 2024. This exciting new centre provides high quality learning experiences for children and families as part of the MacMillan Hub, a community focused, collaborative location that offers a range of services for the local community through partnership with North Edinburgh Arts and the relocated Muirhouse library.
We are recruiting an experienced Early Years Officer to join our team permanently. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting children to become confident, capable individuals and helping them achieve their full potential. As an officer you will monitor the quality and impact of learning environments, plan and interact with children, and proactively develop and support your team to achieve the best possible outcomes. You will know children and team members as individuals and learners, model excellent communication skills and effectively deploy team members to meet children’s needs.
The role requires working shift patterns within the setting, between 07.45 and 18:00, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with some late shifts on rotation each month.
Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years proven post qualifying experience in an Early Years setting and relevant experience of working with parents and carers.
Qualifications
- SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 7
- HNC Childhood Practice

Regulatory and Background Checks
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an overseas criminal record check will be required. An unconditional offer of employment will be subject to the outcome of both checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salary and Working Hours
Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and increases annually until it reaches the top of the range.
