Location:Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh

Hours:30 hours per week full time (Please note, the Scottish Greens Parliamentary Groupoperatesa four-day working week). This role involves occasional evening and weekend working, including providing out of hours cover on a rotational basis.

Reporting to:Head of Communications, Scottish Greens Parliamentary Group

The Scottish Greens Parliamentary Group are looking for an experienced Communications Officer to join their team providing communications and media support to thegroup’s 15MSPs and their regional offices. This is a varied role in a fast-pacedenvironment, directly contributing to the group’s communications output across the full range of channels, including print,broadcast,and digital output.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Producing materials that effectively convey the Scottish Greens Group’s aims to thegeneral publicand media.
    • Keeping up to date with current media developments.
    • Building andmaintainingrelationships with media stakeholders
    • Producinghigh qualitypress releases, articles, social mediacontentand other written materials
    • Contributing to the development of communications campaign plans, and delivering them as part of the group’s communications team
  • Following all media outlets to capture relevant developments as they happen.
    • Maintaining media monitoring systems to support group communications
    • Contributing to group monitoring and evaluation of social and digital output
  • Identifyingpotential media opportunities and acting asmediacontact.
    • Organisingand arranging interviews and media events
    • Preparing MSPs for media appearances and providing pre-event briefings
    • Developing creative new engagement methods for social media accounts

Person specification

  • Experience of working in a communications role in politics, campaigning, or the media
  • Ability to foster good working relationships with confidence to understand how the media worldoperates.
  • Experience in designing creative communications over a range of formats on different media platforms.
  • Ability to work flexibly and creatively in a fast pacedenvironment, often to tight deadlines
  • Flexibility using relevant IT skills and writing styles, covering both traditional and newer forms of media.
  • A good understanding of the Scottish media environment
  • Experience of designing and delivering digital campaigns
  • Knowledge of Scottish Parliamentary processes
