Join Tarmac as an Apprentice Operative in our Cement Plant Team at Dunbar.
What you’ll be doing
- Safety First: Support a safe working environment and uphold our high safety standards.
- Production Operations: Learn to operate and monitor crushers, mills, kilns, and conveyors; assist in controlling process parameters to ensure consistent quality and efficiency.
- Packing Plant: Support automated bagging lines, palletising, and quality checks; help maintain dust control systems and product standards.
- Rail Loading: Assist with bulk cement loading into railcars, inspect equipment, and coordinate with logistics to ensure safe and timely dispatch.
- Quarry Operations: Learn how raw materials are extracted, crushed, and transported; support equipment inspections, haulage coordination, and gain exposure to blasting and environmental controls.
- Maintenance & Housekeeping: Conduct routine inspections, support basic maintenance tasks, and contribute to a clean, safe working environment.
- Work collaboratively to drive continuous improvement and maintain strong team communication.
- Take pride in your work and remain determined to succeed.
Life on site involves working both inside and outside, sometimes in dusty or confined environments. Your health and safety are our top priority and full protective clothing is provided. Your colleagues help and look out for you, as safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Qualification
- Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operator – Level 2 Apprenticeship.
- Travel to the National Skills and Safety Park in Macclesfield (accommodation and travel expenses provided).

- Scottish National 5 (Nat 5) in Maths and English.
- Ability to travel to college.
- Strong commitment to working safely and responsibly – safety is at the heart of everything we do.
