Job Description

The BARGACREE Café is the on-site café at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, located at 20 Dumbreck Road, Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, G41 5BW. Open daily from 8.00am to 5.00pm (last orders at 4.30pm), the café welcomes patients, their families, staff and members of the public.

Guests can enjoy beautiful views of the hospice gardens while dining. Operated by hospice staff and dedicated volunteers, BARGACREE Café is also dog friendly, making it the perfect place to stop after a walk in Bellahouston Park.

As a Café Volunteer, you’ll play an important role in supporting the future of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. You’ll help provide a warm, welcoming and high quality food and drink service for patients, families, visitors, staff and fellow volunteers. Your support will help ensure the smooth running of the café while creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere for everyone.

What You’ll Do

Create a warm and welcoming environment for all visitors.

Clear and tidy tables, and restock crockery, cutlery, napkins and other café supplies.

Help maintain high presentation standards throughout the café.

Follow food hygiene and health and safety procedures.

Ensure visitors have a positive and comfortable experience.

Maintain confidentiality and communicate information appropriately.

Skills and Personal Qualities

Basic awareness of food hygiene.

Friendly, welcoming manner with excellent customer service skills.

Willingness to learn and undertake café training.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Cheerful, approachable and confident when engaging with a wide range of people.

Ability to use initiative while following guidance and procedures.

Committed to building positive relationships with staff and volunteers.

Willingness to undertake relevant training.

Smart, professional appearance in line with hospice standards.

Strong communication and customer care skills.

Time Commitment

We ask volunteers to commit to a regular schedule, whether weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

A choice of shifts is available every day.

Training and Support

Shadow shift with an experienced volunteer before your first shift.

Hospice Orientation Training.

Mandatory training and team meetings, where required.
