Job Description
We are recruiting for a full time, Aberdeen based Radioactive Substances Specialist on a permanent basis
At SEPA we protect the environment through expert led projects in Scotland.
Responsibilities
- Regulate radioactive substances activities under Environmental Authorisations Scotland Regulations 2018, including assessment and determination of applications.
- Undertake inspections to evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Progress proportionate enforcement action when necessary, in line with SEPA’s enforcement policies, to secure compliance and protect the environment.
- Communicate and engage confidently with operators, stakeholders, experts and other regulators on matters related to radioactive substances.
- Work in a specialist regulatory team and be responsible for the regulation of a varied range of sites primarily in the North East of Scotland, including offshore facilities in the North Sea.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant scientific degree or equivalent experience.
- Good experience working with radioactive substances or in radiation protection.
- Knowledge of legislative framework covering radioactive substances nationally and internationally.
- Knowledge of the oil and gas sector and ability to travel to offshore facilities (training can be provided).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
