Gas Engineer Assistant Locations: Dundee, Aberdeen, Fife

Salary: £28.2k per annum (increase to £31.3k upon successful completion of probationary period). Once qualified, your earning potential increases with additionally paid standby and overtime. Start date: September 2026.

We’re looking for exceptional Trainee Gas Engineers, and we’re not interested in your CV. We want to uncover your values, skills, and potential abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineers on site and learn from them during gas services and mains repair activities.
  • Excavate, dig in public and private highways, lay and repair gas pipes; work in various outdoor environments safely as part of a team.
  • Keep gas supply running to millions of people year round; standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours.
  • Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Operate gas safe equipment and perform repairs, replacements, and new installations of gas mains and services.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Adapts and remains calm in public interaction and changing situations.
  • Comfortable working on a rota with shift patterns, including weekends and nights.
  • Clean shaven; passes face fit test and wears required breathing apparatus.
  • Holds a valid UK driver’s licence.
  • Based within a commutable distance of Dundee, Aberdeen or Fife.
  • No prior experience required; full training and equipment will be provided.

  3. Stage 3 – Interview/Assessment Centre; discuss fit, ask questions.
