Waste and Cleansing Supervisor

Craigmillar Depot

Salary: £34,452 – £40,501

Hours: 36 per week

Shift: 4X4 Day shift 06.00 – 17.02 (requires a driving licence)

Qualifications

The post holder must hold or attain a qualification at SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an environmental related subject.

Responsibilities

Responsible for day to day management of a designated group of Waste and Cleansing staff, delivering services such as:

• Street cleaning
• Waste and recycling collection
• Litter collection from open spaces
• Street washing
• Graffiti removal
• Environmental inspection

Act as a first point of contact with the public, providing advice and responding to problems.

Support or take appropriate environmental enforcement action as directed by line management.

Plan, prioritise and allocate staff and resources to ensure adequate cover and continuity of service.

Allocate and monitor work performance using route planning software and mobile technology.

Maintain adequate stocks of uniform & PPE, ensuring all staff are issued prescribed items of protective clothing and use them responsibly.

Confirm staff compliance with relevant regulations.

Brief staff on matters affecting them, including performance, changes to working practices, service developments and provide access to Council information such as mandatory HR policies.

Issue relevant paperwork/instruction to crews at shift start and check on progress/completion throughout the day and upon return to depot.

Utilise all available performance information to monitor and manage resources to maximise service, addressing exceptions and issues appropriately.
