Overview

We are seeking two ST2+ level paediatricians to work across our Paediatric and Neonatal services. One post will provide fixed term cover of maternity leave from August 2026 to February 2027. The second post will cover a 12 month period initially and will be recurring on an annual basis. A starting date sooner than August will be considered for each post depending on the availability of applicants. This post includes out of hours duties and is banded at 1A.

Neonatal and Acute Paediatric Services are co located at University Hospital Crosshouse near Kilmarnock, a large and busy District General Hospital. The local Neonatal Unit works closely with other units in the West of Scotland network and contributes to the Scottish Neonatal Retrieval service. The unit cares for babies who are being cooled and for preterm babies transferred back from central units under the Best Start programme.

The General Paediatric department comprises an in patient ward, an Acute Assessment Unit and an out patient ward. The inpatient ward has 23 beds including HDU facilities. We care for patients with a wide variety of medical and surgical paediatric conditions, working closely with colleagues in the Emergency Department and other specialities. We provide round the clock anaesthetic cover to support paediatric emergencies.

Paediatric and Neonatal outpatient clinics are provided in locations around Ayrshire and Arran. This post is for a resident doctor at a middle tier level to be part of the ST2+ grade rota. The post involves out of hours shifts and day shifts. There is opportunity to attend outpatient clinics as well as acute admissions and inpatient cover. The post is well supported by Consultants and a tier 1 rota comprising FY2 and GPST doctors as well as Advanced Paediatric and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners.

Qualifications

Applicants must be appropriately experienced and hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice.

Compensation & Hours

The post is banded at 1A and includes out of hours duties.

Location & Service

University Hospital Crosshouse is a large, modern district general hospital with 625 beds and the main provider of services for approximately 367,000 people living in Ayrshire and Arran. The Neonatal Unit is part of the Integrated Maternity service based at Ayrshire Maternity Unit within the University Hospital Crosshouse campus, where about 3,000 babies are delivered per year.
