Job Description

The National SquadAssistantTeam Manager plays a key role within Scottish Water Polo (SWP) by supportingthe Team Manager anda National Squadand its athletesacross thewater polo developmentpathways. The purpose of the role istodeputise and support the Team Manager toensure that the squadoperateswithin a consistent, safe, and well governed framework that reflects Scottish Swimming and Scottish Water Polo standards.

The postholder will act asone of theprimary pointsof contact and trusted support forathletes, offering guidance, helping them navigateteamchallenges, and ensuring they feel equipped, valued, and connectedto the team.Success in this role is ensuringa collaborative approach with other National Squad Team Managersand Assistant Team Managers,sharinglearningand best practiceso as tofostera collaborative culture andensure strong teams.

This role works collaboratively withCoach rolesto ensurethe efficientoperation of the National squad and effective and clear communication with the squad athletes.

Governance

  • Assistin coordinationand supportofallcoaches andsquad members,providing updates, insight, and governance oversight on behalf ofthe squad
  • Supportnational team competition planning, working withotherTeam Managers, League Coordinators, Finance Managers and the Wellbeing Protection Officer to avoid clashes and ensure compliance with safety and wellbeing protocols.
  • EnsureallSS/ SWPcompliance requirements are met for domestic and international events (PVGs, international permits, medical consent forms, risk assessments, travel documentation, etc.).
  • Ensureappropriateconductand standardacross allsquad volunteers and athletes in line with SWP and Scottish Swimming policiese.g. Athlete Agreement, Team Manager Code of Conduct, Coaches Code of Conduct, Team Manager Handbook, eventlicensesand poolpassespolicy.
  • Act asa keypoint of contact, alongside Team Manager,for all National Squadathletes, offering guidance, problem solving support, and a safe space to raise concerns or seek advice.
  • Supportrecruitmentactivitiesfor other rolesrequiredin thesquadas necessary
  • Work withthe Team Managerand Lead National Team Manager ifrequiredto support the Team Managerdevelopment programme,participatingin communities of practice toenableconsistency,training, qualification pathways, and succession planningacross squads.
  • Participate involunteer working groups to support projects and operational needsas required by the squad or wider Team Managers network.
  • Help managesquadconcerns, complaints, and wellbeing issues, working closely with the Wellbeing & Protection Officerand Team Manager.

Operational & Logistical Management

  • Workcollaborativelywith the Coacheswhowillidentifythe event and competition opportunitiesand contacts for the TM’sto then lead alllogisticsfor squad activities, including travel arrangements, accommodation, insurance,meals/ dietary requirements)and event planning.
  • Help keep parents updated on all details of meets/ camp’s andbe the key responsible person for all team members whilst travelling or away
  • Attend pre and post meet briefingsasrequiredwith / on behalf of TM
  • Helpsubmitinternational permits and ensure all required paperwork is completed ahead of competitions.
  • Support any liaisons, in line with theTM, withthe SWP Finance Coordinator to ensure budgets, fees, and accounts are managed appropriately and in line with compliance standards.
  • Support to ensuresquad needs such as kit requirements, equipment, and facility access/ pool passes are met.
  • Support the TM in respondingto enquiries from prospective players, parents, and clubs, signpostingappropriately.

Communication & Reporting

Work with TM to:

  • Provide monthly reports to Lead National TM
  • Ensure competition reports are completed andsubmittedfollowing events.
  • Maintain clearcollaborativecommunication channels across coaches, officials, and Scottish Swimming.
  • Participate as a squad leader by creatingsquads’annual development plans.
  • To be point of contact, ifrequired, forappropriatepublicrelations, and pass team results onto relevant mediacontactswhen necessary

  • Understanding of sports competition structures (water polo preferred, but team sport experience essential).

Requirements

  • PVG Scheme membership.
  • Completion of a Self Declaration.
  • Be a Scottish Swimming Member.
  • Valid Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport qualification
  • Attendance at relevant training.
  • Minimum two years’ experience as a Team Manager.
