Role and Environment
The Children’s Hearing service at NHS Lothian is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the paediatric audiology team in an exciting role where you will support children and their families. This is a fixed term role for 12 months. The post involves working alongside existing paediatric audiologists and assistant staff at a purpose-built Children’s Hospital in the city of Edinburgh. If you are a new graduate, we can offer a strong supportive start to your paediatric audiology career, where you can consolidate your academic learning in a friendly, progressive and inclusive team. The post holder will support the service clinically carrying out paediatric diagnostic hearing assessments in the ENT clinic and with children over the age of 4 years. Clinical duties will include delivering high levels of care to the service’s patients via face-to-face appointments at The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and at the Lauriston Hospital. Service improvement and development are central to the vision for forward the paediatric audiology service provision at NHS Lothian. Other services that the sider team undertake include diagnostic testing of children aged 0 – 18 years of age to include ABR, ASSR, Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Performance Audiometry, Pure Tone Audiometry, TEAOE testing, Otoscopy and Tympanometry. We undertake the fitting of hearing aids for all ages and we have an established national microtia service where we participate in the fitting of implantable devices. Service improvements duties which include contributions to SOPs, patient information audit and quality improvement. A vision for quality improvement is strongly advised. The service currently runs clinics Monday to Friday between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00 with the expectation of working 36 hours between these times based on service delivery and room availability.
Responsibilities
- Support the paediatric audiology service clinically by carrying out paediatric diagnostic hearing assessments in the ENT clinic and with children over age 4 years.
- Deliver high levels of care to patients via face-to-face appointments at The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and at Lauriston Hospital.
- Contribute to service improvement and development, including SOPs, patient information audits and quality improvement activities.
- Work with the paediatric audiology team on diagnostic testing of children aged 0-18 years, including ABR, ASSR, Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Performance Audiometry, Pure Tone Audiometry, TEAOE testing, Otoscopy and Tympanometry.
- Assist with hearing aid fitting for all ages and participate in the national microtia service and implantable device fitting.
- Support the service in delivering a quality improvement vision.
- Be available to work within the service hours (Monday to Friday, 08.00-18.00) with a 36-hour week expectation, depending on service delivery and room availability.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the paediatric audiology team; this is suitable for new graduates seeking to develop paediatric audiology skills.
- The post requires PVG Scheme membership/record. If not currently a PVG member for the required regulatory group, an application to Disclosure Scotland will be needed before starting.
