The role:
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Pharmacy Services are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Pharmacy Distribution Centre as a Pharmacy Support Worker, Higher Level within the Vaccine Holding Centre. This is a Band 3 permanent post working 36 hours per week.
The Pharmacy Distribution Centre is a modern, high volume, state of the art facility responsible for the procurement and distribution of medicines and vaccines across hospitals, clinics, community pharmacies, GP practices, prisons and police custody settings within the region, including Argyll and Bute. As one of the largest automated hospital pharmacy projects in the UK, the service uses advanced robotic systems to ensure safe, efficient and high quality distribution of medicines.
You will work as part of a friendly and dynamic vaccine team, supporting the seamless and compliant supply of pharmaceutical products and contributing to essential public health services.
Only in person interviews will be available due to a basic numeracy and accuracy test that will be carried out at the interview.
Duration, location and working pattern:
- Permanent post working 36 hours per week.
- Based at the Pharmacy Distribution Centre Vaccine Holding Centre within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
- Variable shift pattern, five days over seven, including weekends and public holidays. Shifts include 7 am-3 pm, 8 am-4 pm, 9 am-5 pm, 10 am-6 pm and 11 am-7 pm.
- Ineligible for visa sponsorship.
- In person interviews with a basic numeracy and accuracy test.
Key responsibilities:
Ensure the safe, accurate and compliant supply of medicines and vaccines in line with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde standard operating procedures. Work collaboratively within a supervised team environment while contributing to the coordination of vaccine supply and maintaining service continuity.
Undertake accurate picking, packing and distribution of medicines and vaccines following completion of required training and competency assessments. Maintain cold chain processes to ensure vaccine integrity and manage the receipt of goods while updating stock management systems and adhering to Good Distribution Practice and the Falsified Medicines Directive.
Support stock control processes across a range of stock types including vaccines, controlled drugs, high cost medicines and unlicensed products, while participating in stock investigations and maintaining documentation. Ensure the safety, legality and quality of medicines throughout storage and distribution and support the training of colleagues where appropriate. Contribute to continuous service improvement and patient safety across the region.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills, evidenced by three Standard Grades or equivalent qualifications, including English and Maths. Basic IT skills and the ability to work accurately in a fast paced, high volume environment with strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety standards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, follow established procedures and communicate clearly with colleagues. Demonstrated organisational ability and initiative. Experience in a healthcare or regulated environment, stock management and supervising or training staff is desirable.
- Commitment to achieving relevant SVQ qualifications and participating in ongoing training and development. Comprehensive training and development will be provided in the role.
