About the vacancy:
We’re looking for a Fire Safety Team Leader to support the delivery of a high-quality fire safety compliance service across our housing portfolio.
In this role you will lead a team of technicians and engineers, you’ll ensure statutory fire safety requirements are met, manage risk assessment programmes, and oversee inspections, contractors, and improvement projects. This is a key role where you’ll drive performance, maintain compliance, and contribute to creating safe homes and communities.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance is essential
Specifically, in the role you will:
Team Management & Requirements.
- To manage a team of four Fire Safety Technicians and four Fire Safety Electrical Engineers. Ensuring this team is effectively and efficiently managed with outputs and performance targets met.
- To assist the Fire Safety Manager to ensure Hedyn complies with its statutory duties as a landlord regarding fire safety.
- To manage an annual budget of circa £600k and develop future budget requirements for the site based fire safety team member activities.
- To deputise and cover the Fire Safety Manager during periods of absence.
Fire Risk Assessment & Actions.
- To control the Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) programme, facilitate access to premises and ensure they are conducted within defined timescales.
- Validate fire safety actions and FRA significant findings – Assign remedial actions to internal colleagues or external contractors, manage the process, ensure the actions are completed within set timescales, ensuring all FRA relevant documentation is correctly processed and recorded in accordance with legislative and Hedyn policy.
- Manage escalations of Fire Safety actions, when all options have been exhausted to escalate to the Fire Safety Manager
- Ensure that where deviations are made to risk assessments ‘significant findings’ that a Fire Engineer is engaged for technical advice note and/ or supporting rationale.
Inspections & Projects.
- To develop a Fire Door (FD) database that captures the FD risk based inspection programme which will ensure all fire door-related actions and activities are clearly captured, recorded, and reported as defined by Policy.
- To manage and strategically oversee the delivery of safety inspection programmes for example fire door inspection’s, emergency lighting, detection and alarm testing programme’s. Produce clear and accurate reporting.
- To assist in the fire strategy (FS) development of the programme, ensuring FS are developed for each of Hedyn’s premises, correctly stored on the system, and relevant parts are communicated to customers.
- To research and then develop specifications for fire safety projects, and provide assurance to other teams e.g. development team, capital works team that’s their specifications are suitable and will meet functionality, aesthetics and compliance with relevant legislation.
Contractor Management.
- Develop consultant and/or contractor briefing documents and specifications to initiate Procurement activities.
- To manage, projects (supporting wider Hedyn teams), utilising project management skills to deliver one off projects and cyclical fire safety maintenance activities.
- Establish and chair contractor meetings, which will be recorded, minutes with detailed actions allocated.
General.
- Strategically contribute to the development of policies, processes and operational procedures pertaining fire safety compliance activities are coordinated, effective and efficient, subsequently reviewing, and updating where and when appropriate.
- Manage the compliance database to ensure it is updated, engage with relevant stakeholders and provide executive level performance information and reports.
- Contribute to developing team relationships and work collaboratively both internally and externally to ensure a coordinated service approach for our customers.
- To work at all times in a safe and appropriate manner to meet the duties and responsibilities within the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the association.
