Job Description
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland and are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our Construction & Contracting Team based in Inverness, covering northern Scotland and occasionally other regions.
What you’ll do
- Provide health and safety advice to groups within Capital Investment and enabling directorates, supporting a positive safety culture across the programme and operational activities.
- Ensure compliance with the Construction Design Management (CDM) 2015 regulations and all UK legislation, maintaining safety standards across the organisation.
- Promote safe practices in key risk areas: Excavations, Working at Height, Lifting Operations, COSHH, DSEAR, Confined Spaces, Lone Working, and Temporary Works.
- Lead incident investigations, determine root causes and implement preventive actions.
- Develop and deliver training for managers and staff on safety responsibilities.
- Audit and review safety management systems, monitor site activities, and assess suppliers, contractors and partners.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on improvement initiatives, site inspections and customer liaison.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (minimum).
- Construction site experience with ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, Construction Design Regulations and key safety aspects such as energy isolation, contractor management, excavations, COSHH, DSEAR, permit-to-work, working at height, lifting and confined spaces.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent communication, influencing and relationship building skills at all organisational levels.
- Desirable: NEBOSH Diploma or progress towards it.
