Job Description

Teacher of Biology – Fixed Term (until 01/06/2027)

James Gillespie’s High School, located in Edinburgh, employs around 1800 pupils and includes two campuses: Warrender Park Road (Malala Building, Eric Liddell Sports Building, Muriel Spark Building) and a newly refurbished annexe (Darroch) at Gillespie Street. Staff will regularly travel between the two sites.

Salary: £35,022 – £52,740 (Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education).

Hours: 35 per week.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high quality biology lessons to senior school students.
  • Develop and assess student progress in line with curriculum expectations.
  • Collaborate with department and school activities, contributing to a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to school improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Qualified teacher of biology with full teaching qualification.
  • Evidence of enthusiasm and a record of contributions to department and whole school activities in previous posts.
  • Registered with the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS) or equivalent and willing to undergo PVG Scheme update or new PVG check if required.
  • Willing to provide an Overseas Criminal Record Check if continuously overseas for 3 months or more in the last 5 years.
