Community Psychiatric Nurse – Male Only (Band 6)

Location: Uists and Barra Community Mental Health Team, Southern Isles (Benbecula, Uists and Barra). Permanent base in Benbecula.

Salary: £43,231 – £52,679 per annum (Band 6) plus Distant Islands Allowance of £1,461 per annum.

Hours: 36 hours per week. Permanent post.

Job Summary: The post holder will work collaboratively within the CMHT to deliver a range of primary care mental health interventions for adults. The role focuses on screening, assessment, risk evaluation, medication monitoring, telephone triage, sign posting and brief interventions for common mental health problems, with additional duty to support the Out of Hours Service (average 1 week in every 4 weeks). The role also involves developing and improving services for people over 18 with common mental health problems across the Southern Isles.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct mental health screening assessments and risk assessments.
  • Monitor medication and provide related care.
  • Provide telephone triage and brief interventions.
  • Sign post and link patients to wider services.
  • Support the Community Psychiatric Nurse Team for the Out of Hours Service ( 1 week in every 4 weeks On Call).
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager, other community psychiatric nurses and mental health support workers to develop and improve services.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current NMC registration.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to drive across the islands for home based visits.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to providing person centred care in a remote rural setting.
