This post is an exciting opportunity for a SCPHN School nurse to work in Glasgow City School health service, based at Easterhouse Social Work Office, Glasgow. The post holder will hold a SCPHN (School Nursing) master’s level qualification with key responsibilities for a caseload of children and young people. The role focuses on Emotional Health and Wellbeing, providing evidence based interventions after assessment, analysis and care planning to improve wellbeing and outcomes. It also involves child protection and transition work, supporting preceptorship for junior staff and students. Experience and knowledge of emotional health and wellbeing Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions, as well as a knowledge and skill base in child protection, are essential.
The successful candidate must have NMC Registration RN/RSCN/RMN/RNLD and a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) qualification, which is Part 3 of the NMC Specialist register. The candidate must also hold Disclosure Scotland (PVG) and any additional post graduate qualification and skills. A driving licence is advantageous but not essential for face to face work within the community, schools and homes. Working hours are Monday Friday 8:30 4:30 (RWW finish to be discussed). All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

- Shift pattern Monday Friday 8:30 4:30 (RWW finish to be discussed)
Key responsibilities:
- Promote teamwork within a multi professional environment, demonstrating analysis and decision making skills, and leading the delivery of a clinically excellent, high quality service while influencing and supporting change within school nursing and, where appropriate, the HSCP.
- Strengthen and increase partnership working, particularly with parents/carers, the wider family and other partner agencies.
- Demonstrate leadership to other staff that is clustered/locality focused and integrated with partner agencies.
- Utilise integrated skill mix teams, with the wider school health service as a universally accessible service.
- Act as a change agent supporting the development of clinically effective practice through interpretation of evidence and supporting the development and implementation of evidence based policies, procedures and protocols.
- Ensure that agreed standards of practice are maintained, reviewed and continuously developed so that staff deliver safe, effective, client centred, efficient, timely and equitable care within their scope of practice as part of an integrated team supporting school aged children within the HSCP.
- Achieve effective management of a school nursing caseload, including responding to urgent referrals and requests for assistance, prioritising work and balancing other client related and professional activities.
- Identify child protection issues and participate fully in their effective management in accordance with national and local child protection guidelines and policies.
- Maintain liaison with and provide effective communication channels with the multi disciplinary/multi agency workforce including third sector organisations.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- First level registration
- Specialist Community Public Health Nursing – School Nurse or Public Health Nurse Degree on Part 3 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register
- Evidence of ongoing post registration personal/continuous professional development (CPD)
- Evidence of CPD, including participation in essential CAMHS training and modules provided by Higher Educational Institutions to support implementation of the nationally agreed refocused School Nursing role
- Current driving licence
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of current Public Health Initiatives at national and local levels
- Knowledge of Getting it Right for Every Child and the Children and Young Person (Scotland) Act 2014
- Knowledge of relevant Sign Guidelines/Best Practice Statements
- Knowledge of current Child Protection National and Local Guidelines
- Experience of working with children and young people
