Ainscough Crane Hire is looking for the next generation of Apprentice Crane Mechanics to join our industry-leading team. This is your chance to earn while you learn, gain nationally recognised qualifications, and build a career maintaining some of the largest and most impressive cranes in the UK.
No previous experience is required, but a genuine interest in mechanics, engineering, vehicles, plant equipment, or machinery is essential.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working alongside experienced Crane Technicians and Maintenance Supervisors, you’ll gain hands on experience in:
- Servicing and maintaining mobile cranes
- Diagnosing faults and assisting with repairs
- Supporting breakdown and emergency maintenance activities
- Learning preventative maintenance techniques
- Using specialist tools and workshop equipment
- Recording service and maintenance activities
- Maintaining the highest safety standards
- Developing technical knowledge of complex lifting equipment
Every day will be different, with plenty of opportunities to learn from experienced professionals who are experts in their field.
Training & Qualifications
Throughout your apprenticeship you’ll receive structured training both on the job and through block release learning at Myerscough College.
During the programme you’ll work towards:
- NVQ Level 1, 2 and 3 in Plant Maintenance
- Industry-recognised qualifications
- Practical skills and technical expertise
- A strong foundation for a long term engineering career
Travel, accommodation and associated college costs are fully funded by Ainscough Crane Hire.

You might already:
- Work on cars, bikes, tractors or machinery in your spare time
- Enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together
- Have a practical mindset and enjoy problem solving
- Be interested in engineering, mechanics or construction equipment
- Want to learn a skilled trade and build a long term career
You’ll also need:
- GCSE Maths and English Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Good communication skills
- The ability to work safely as part of a team
