Overview

Fife Nature Records Centre is the Local Environmental Records Centre for the area, providing a quality wildlife information and data resource. The Centre collates and shares biodiversity information to inform decision making, guide conservation work and support research. This role provides an opportunity to assist and support the Information Officer and gain experience in the sector.

Responsibilities

• Collate, validate and enter biological records into the Recorder 6 database.
• Use tools such as Record Cleaner, Excel, ArcGIS and R, and access records from online platforms such as iRecord and the NBN Atlas.
• Interact with a wide range of recorders, from beginners submitting records to expert recorders who verify them.
• Support the maintenance and growth of the wildlife information resource, ensuring accuracy and detail.

Qualifications

• Experience with Recorder 6, Record Cleaner, Excel, ArcGIS, R, and online platforms such as iRecord and the NBN Atlas is an advantage; training can be provided.
• Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable communicating with others and building relationships with recorders and partners.
• Ability to deliver a consistent and reliable service with customer care skills, handling enquiries via email and telephone.
• Accurate, detail oriented, with strong data handling skills, particularly biological data.
• Organisational and time management skills to manage workload and data.
• Proactive problem solving approach.
• Experience maintaining confidentiality of sensitive wildlife records.
• Essential qualifications: National 4, SVQ, or 3 Standard Grades or equivalent.

Work Arrangements

Time: 21 hours and 36 minutes per week (0.6 FTE). Contract: Temporary to 31 March 2027. Location: Fife House, Glenrothes with blended working – office on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, otherwise remote from home.
