Job Description

Pupil Support Assistant – Fixed Term (until 25/06/2027)

Trinity Primary School – Salary: £26,806-£27,032 (pro rata for part time and sessional)

Hours: 18 per week, 39 weeks sessional. Working pattern: Monday-Wednesday.

Fixed term: 10/08/2026 – 29/06/2027.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively as part of the school team, supporting pupils with additional support needs to access education and ensuring their care and wellbeing needs are met.
  • Provide flexibility and support the day to day operations of the school as directed by the school leadership team.
  • Support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs, including managing dysregulated behaviour.
  • Ensure the ongoing health, safety and welfare of pupils, bringing child protection matters to the attention of teaching staff in line with relevant procedures.
  • Work 1 to 1 with pupils to help them organise their day and follow instructions.
  • Provide personal care to children with additional support needs (feeding, toileting, changing, dressing), encouraging independence and ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Administer medication and complete related paperwork in line with agreed training procedures (e.g. pain relief, antibiotics, asthma relief, diabetes support).
  • Support pupil and child mobility as defined by moving and handling training.
  • Provide comfort and care for minor accidents, upsets or ailments (e.g. cuts and bruises), reporting these to teaching colleagues in line with first aid procedures.
  • Follow standard risk assessment procedures when required.
  • Assist teachers and pupils in all aspects of learning and development, supporting creativity and life skills through planned group and individual programmes such as reading interventions, one to one learning activities and local community opportunities.
  • Assist in strengths based, solution focused individual planning and review, contributing to record keeping, learning profiles and attending appropriate meetings as designated.
  • Execute support strategies advised by senior staff and visiting specialists (speech and language, inclusion and wellbeing support staff, occupational therapy).
  • Support the development of positive relationships and emotional wellbeing of children and young people using evidence based interventions (e.g. Circle, SCERTS and trauma informed practice).
  • Help deliver whole school and individual plans, promoting positive relationships, rights respecting approaches and resilience, involving parents, carers and school partners.
  • Assist with transition programmes for pupils moving schools, supervising and escorting them to receiving schools and encouraging participation in group activities.
  • Supervise pupils and support play in the playground.
  • Participate in professional development, in service and refresher training as deemed appropriate.

Qualifications and Checks

  • The post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
  • Preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
  • Those who have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years must provide an Overseas Criminal Record Check.
  • Unconditional offer and commencement depend on satisfactory outcomes of both checks.
