Job Description

The Role
As a Domestic Assistant within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in ensuring our hospitals remain clean, safe and welcoming for patients, visitors and staff. You will support high standards of hygiene across wards, departments and theatres, contributing directly to patient care and wellbeing, and support essential ward services including meal preparation and environmental hygiene.
Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Part Time, Permanent
- Base Location: Gender Service, Candleriggs, Glasgow
- Working patterns: Monday to Friday, 17:00-19:00
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness across wards, departments and theatres in line with infection control procedures
- Follow daily and periodic cleaning schedules, using appropriate cleaning methods and products
- Safely operate mechanical cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and scrubber/polishers
- Dispose of domestic and clinical waste in accordance with policy and ensure work areas are left safe and secure
- Support ward based duties including preparing, serving and distributing meals and beverages
- Monitor food and fridge temperatures and maintain hygiene within ward kitchens and food regeneration equipment
- Communicate effectively with staff, patients and visitors, reporting any faults or incidents to supervisors
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
- No previous experience required as full training will be provided
- Basic practical skills and willingness to learn cleaning techniques and procedures
- Understanding of the importance of hygiene and infection control within a healthcare setting
- Ability to follow instructions, schedules and safe working practices
- Good communication skills with a professional and courteous approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment
- Organisational skills to prioritise tasks and meet daily cleaning targets
